logoCeva Animal Health, the world’s fifth largest animal health company announces the acquisition of Aquilón CyL S.L., a Spanish biotechnology company specialised in research, diagnostics, and the development of innovative biological solutions for swine diseases.

Founded in 2012 and based in León – Spain, Aquilón is a spin-off from the university of León. The company has a proven track record of more than a decade in applied studies of the pig digestive tract and in the development of biological tools that translate academic knowledge into commercial solutions with real on-farm impact.

A strategic addition to Ceva’s swine disease prevention offer

This acquisition enhances Ceva’s swine intestinal health portfolio. It includes the first and only European commercial vaccine targeting Brachyspira hyodysenteriae, the bacterium responsible for swine dysentery, a major enteric disease causing severe economic losses globally.

I am delighted by this opportunity to further strengthen Ceva’s swine intestinal health portfolio. Aquilón brings a solution that helps prevent an important disease and reduce antibiotic dependence" said Dr. Marc Prikazsky, Executive Chaiman of Ceva Animal Health.

Smooth integration and strengthened scientific capabilities

Upon completion of the transaction, Aquilón’s team of scientists will join Ceva, reinforcing its global research and innovation capabilities in swine health. Their expertise will accelerate the development and roll‑out of new vaccines and diagnostic tools supporting reduced antibiotic use and more sustainable production.

Carlos Artigas, Director of Aquilón, commented on the acquisition: “We are proud to see our team and our flagship innovation find the ideal environment for growth within Ceva. With its global reach and strong technical capabilities, Ceva will provide outstanding support for the further development and commercialisation of this solution.
